Powershop says the Government must find ways to help families struggling with rising power prices.
The company said a quarterly survey of domestic power prices by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment indicates the annual power bill for a typical household increased by an average of $65 in the 12 months to May this year.
The East Coast had the highest average annual increase of $182, while Dunedin experienced the lowest - $17.
Powershop said energy poverty is becoming a real issue and the Government should introduce a scheme to support families struggling with their power bills.
