7:11 pm on 22 July 2013

Air New Zealand says flight delays caused by heavy fog at Auckland Airport may continue until Tuesday morning as the airline clears a backlog of passengers.

About 70 regional flights were uable to land or take off on Monday after fog blanketed the airport from early in the morning.

The fog cleared about 1pm, but an Air New Zealand spokesperson said it's taking some time to re-book passengers on alternative flights.

She said many of Monday night's flights are already quite full, and some passengers may end up having to travel on Tuesday.

An airport spokesperson said there is a chance that fog may return on Monday night.
