10:39 am on 22 July 2013

The man accused of the murder of a woman on Saturday appeared in Christchurch District Court briefly on Monday.

Colin Albert Hoani, 59, was arrested on Sunday and initially charged with assault, but that was amended to murder following the results of a post mortem on Valmai McFie, 67.

The accused appeared briefly in court, dressed in blue jeans and a black polo shirt.

Lawyer Craig Ruane requested that he be remanded without plea, which judge Gary MacAskill granted.

Mr Hoani left the courtroom yelling, 'Where am I going to be remanded your honour'?
