A Taranaki man has been sent to prison for the 51st time.
At the New Plymouth District Court on Monday William Herangi Wanakore, who has 97 convictions, was sentenced after pleading guilty to charges of burglary and assault.
The 34-year-old told the court he wanted to change his ways because he was becoming a grandfather.
But Judge Allan Roberts sentenced him to 20 months' in jail, saying people were scared of him and feared he wouldn't change.
