Police in Christchurch have arrested a man after small fires were lit in the city.
A member of the public saw a man going in and out of properties in the suburb of Wigram, where two wheelie bins on the street were set on fire at about 3.30am on Thursday.
Police say he is also likely to have lit fires in other rubbish bins in the area, including one outside a dairy.
A 48-year-old unemployed man was to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday.
The fires follow a spate of arsons across the city in the past two weeks.
However, police said on Wednesday they were confident those fires were not linked and were likely to be the work of opportunists.
