The Auckland events agency says holding the BMX world championships in the city will bring in at least $4 million.

More than 2000 riders from 33 countries are in Auckland this weekend for the competition, at an indoor dirt track at Vector Arena.

It's the first time New Zealand has hosted such a major BMX event and everyone from juniors to Olympic riders will be taking part.

ATEED general manager Rachel Carroll said hosting the World Championships should prove more than worthwhile financially.
