9:31 pm on 31 July 2013

Police are trying to establish what sparked an incident in Taihape in which three men were stabbed.

St John Ambulance says two men went to the North Island town's medical centre just before 5pm on Wednesday with multiple stab wounds.

They were taken to Whanganui Base Hospital - one by amulance, the other by rescue helicopter.

A third man with stab wounds called an ambulance to a house in Dixon Way in Taihape and has been taken to Palmerston North Hospital.

Detective Senior Sergeant Neil Furlong said police were at both hospitals on Wednesday night talking to the men, but it is not yet clear what happened.

Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
