Police have discovered large amounts of drugs, gold, cash and firearms following three drug raids in Hamilton.

Three properties were searched on Thursday as part of an investigation into the importation of controlled drugs.

Detective Senior Sergeant Nigel Keall says $86,000 worth of gold and silver bullion were found at one address, and about $144,000 worth of LSD and $4000 worth of Ecstasy were also found at a rural property.

Mr Keall says the operation was put on hold when police found explosive devices at one house. It was declared safe by the Defence Force's explosive ordnance disposal team and the operation continued late on Thursday night.

Two men facing a raft of drug and firearm charges appeared in the Hamilton District Court on Friday in relation to the raids.
