A Hamilton man arrested in a drugs operation on Thursday has appeared in court facing firearm charges and being in possession of a home-made bomb.
Jared Underwood, 27, faces eight charges - five for drug possession and supply and three charges of possessing a military style assault rifle, a pistol and a pipe bomb.
Another man, Matthew Collins, 25, faces 20 charges of possession and importation of class A and B drugs and possession of drug related equipment.
The two men were arrested in a joint police and customs operation at a commercial building in Kahikatea Drive in the city.
The police say a Defence Force explosive team was brought in to check the pipe bomb and make it safe.
The two accused didn't enter a plea and were granted bail to reappear in the Hamilton District Court on 23 August.
