Police hope to discover more about Murchison collision

Police are hoping to find out more about how a small truck and campervan collided head on near Murchison on Thursday night, leaving one person in a critical condition and seriously injuring two others.

The Nelson Marlborough rescue helicopter flew to the collision site at about 8.30pm on Thursday.

It says the campervan had six passengers, believed to be Argentinian, while two people were in the small truck.

A 62-old-man is in a critical condition, while two women, aged 46 and 18, have serious injuries.

Two other men, aged 21 and 52, are in a stable condition at Nelson Hospital.

The remaining three people have been treated for minor injuries.

Police are hoping to interview some of the passengers to find out how the collision happened.
