Police have busted a scheme in forged ski tickets worth $40,000 which were being sold in Queenstown.
Two men were arrested and 400 fake ski passes confiscated in a two-day sting involving the police and the ski-field operator.
NZSki transport manager Etienne Raubenheimer said an Englishman and a Malaysian man were producing the tickets at a printing plant in Malaysia.
He said the forgeries were very convincing, but had subtle differences, such as the type of paper used, which gave them away as fakes.
Mr Raubenheimer said NZSki accepts that, until now, customers may have bought the forgeries in good faith, but those who present a fake from now on will be liable.
