Funds for reward raised by website

A group of lawyers has raised more than $13,000 in an online campaign to find whoever killed and mutilated a family's pet dog in South Auckland.

Portia, a 6-year-old fox terrier, vanished from her home in Karaka 11 days ago and her skinned body was found a week later on her owner's lawn.

The website, www.dead-dog-reward-fund.co.nz, went live on Sunday morning.

Spokesperson Carole Curtis said a reward may encourage informants to come forward.

Ms Curtis said a person who could commit such a crime could hurt humans.

She says half the money raised will go towards the informant and half to the SPCA.

Paw Justice, another group, is also offering a reward for information.
