Housing NZ tenants must leave leaky building

Thirty-four Housing New Zealand tenants have to leave a leaky apartment building in Auckland.

Housing New Zealand said on Tuesday that water has been leaking into some of the apartments in an art deco block on Symond Street and the exterior plasterwork is starting to give way.

Tenants would be rehoused over the next three months, it said.

However, the agency does not yet know what will happen to the block because it is classified by the Auckland Council as a heritage building and can't be demolished.
