Judge rejects ex-CEO's bid to get fraud charges dropped

A judge has rejected an attempt by the former chief executive of South Canterbury Finance to have fraud charges against him dropped.

Lachie McLeod - one of four men charged with fraud relating to the collapse of the company, which was placed in receivership in 2010 owing $1.6 billion - had applied to the High Court in Timaru this week to have all five charges thrown out.

All details of the application have been suppressed.

Mr McLeod and two of the others have pleaded not guilty; the fourth man will enter his plea at a later date.

The three-month trial is scheduled to begin next March.
