Latest Bain tests may not provide definitive answer - police

Police say tests to be carried out on Tuesday on the rifle used to kill the Bain family and Robin Bain's fingerprints, may not provide a definitive answer on a theory being advanced by David Bain's legal team.

A recent television documentary showed photographs which supporters of Mr Bain say prove his father, Robin Bain, had powder marks on his fingers when he died.

They say that indicates he, and not David Bain, fired the fatal shots in 1994.

Police have argued the marks were cuts and reiterated Robin's Bain's fingerprints were not found on the gun.

They also applied to the courts to access the originals of the fingerprints, which will be analysed today along with the firearm.

Police say it could be weeks before the results are known.
