Whakatane District Council is to meet property owners who are among the 1500 people living in areas at risk of a landslide or flowing debris.
Information has been sent to the owners in Whakatane, Ohope and Matata, after a study commissioned by the council assessed the level of risk of landslides.
West End Road in Ohope, where Hugh Biddle, 17, died after a landslip in 2011, has a high hazard rating.
Resident Jack Hourigan said the council needs to visit individual properties.
