Tauranaga police say a sick child in need of medical attention has now been treated and discharged.
Two-year-old Wayne Hauwai was being treated in Tauranga Hospital for an asthma condition when he was taken by family members before doctors were ready to release him.
Earlier on Tuesday, police appealed for the boy's parents to return him to hospital, but now say the child was taken by family members to a doctor who has treated him.
