2:40 pm on 17 August 2013

A man accused of killing a baby in Ngaruawahia has pleaded guilty to the girl's murder.

Matthew Shane Ellery made the admission at the High Court in Auckland on Friday.

Serenity Scott-Dinnington was injured in her Ngaruawahia home in Waikato in April 2011 and died from a head injury in Starship Hospital two days later.

Police have thanked members of the local community for their support during the long investigation.

They say that support played a significant part in getting justice for the six-month-old.
