Work started on Teina Pora appeal

5:38 am on 21 August 2013

Work has begun on an appeal to the Privy Council by convicted murderer Teina Pora.

Pora was convicted of raping and murdering Susan Burdett and with aggravated burglary in 1992.

Pora's lawyers have formally filed an application for leave to take the case to the Privy Council.

They hope to hear by October whether or not that leave is granted.

If it is, then they are hoping the case can be heard early next year.
