Police have named the woman who died after being hit by a car in Kaitaia on Tuesday night and whose death sparked a homicide inquiry.
Georgina Manuel, 28, of Kaitaia was a mother of two.
Police say a 45-year-old man who was in a relationship with Ms Manuel has handed himself in and is the only suspect in their investigation.
They want to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious on Pukepoto Road or Grigg Street at the time of the incident.
They are also asking for sightings of a dark blue 2004 Holden Commodore in the area.
Ms Manuel was hit by a vehicle on Pukepoto Road at about 10pm and died in Whangarei hospital on Wednesday morning.
Earlier, police said a homicide inquiry had begun.
