Glitch delays Auckland transport ticket rollout

Problems have struck Auckland's $100 million public transport ticket system, delaying its introduction on further bus services.

Auckland Transport says intermittent problems have shown up and it is delaying the next stage of the rollout, which was due in just over a fortnight.

The AT HOP electronic card system was introduced successfully on Auckland's trains and ferries.

It is also being used by two smaller bus operators - Urban Express, and Birkenhead Transport - but Auckland Transport says there have been intermittent problems tagging on or off.

AT HOP was due to be be extended in early September to the North Shore and Ritchies' bus services.

The agency is still preparing a statement, but it is understood the problem lies in specific equipment, rather than a system failure, and the delay is likely to be counted in weeks.
