Haldon dam flood risk reduced

11:32 am on 23 August 2013

Contractors working on the damaged Haldon dam have dropped the water level by 3.7 metres - work that Marlborough District Council says has significantly reduced the flood risk to surrounding property.

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck east of Seddon last Friday afternoon, damaging every house in the town and further opening cracks which appeared in a series of quakes in July.

The council says approximately 100,000 cubic metres of water will still be in the dam when the work is complete.

Meanwhile residents in Seddon and people who get their water supply south of Wheelers Hill are still advised to boil their water after e-coli was detected in the supply on Monday.
