Three years after a major redevelopment of Auckland's Aotea Square, $100,000 is having to be spent replacing pavers that have not stood up to wear and tear.
Auckland Council central parks manager Jane Aickin says lightweight pavers have been damaged by events, installations and performances.
She says the popularity of the space was initially underestimated.
The pavers will be replaced with a more durable type that is already used in the main part of the square.
A dead pohutukawa tree will also be replaced.
The work is expected to be completed by the middle of October.
