Power use drops as spring comes early

12:27 pm on 26 August 2013

The warm winter is having an effect on power use in Auckland.

New Zealand is having its warmest winter since records began, with average temperatures reaching 9.5 degrees.

Auckland power company Vector says peak electricity demand has been lower in the latter part of this month than in August last year.

It says peak demand was averaging 1400 megawatts this month, compared to 1500 megawatts last year, largely due to the much warmer temperatures.

The warm weather is forecast to continue.
