Cold snap on way

8:51 pm on 27 August 2013

Temperatures are expected to drop sharply over the next two days as a cold southerly spreads over the country.

It's expected to bring snow down to 200 to 300 metres over eastern and southern parts of the South Island on Wednesday, with cold weather spreading to the North Island on Thursday.

MetService says the cold driven by strong southerlies is likely to cause stress for vulnerable livestock.
