The Government has announced $542,000 in additional funding is to go towards a environmental recovery programme set up after the container ship Rena ran aground on the Astrolabe Reef in October 2011.
The announcement brings the total amount of Government funding towards the programme to $2.42 million.
The extra money will go towards monitoring water quality and kaimoana, restoring shorelines, protecting wildlife and assessing the mauri of the area.
