An Auckland man has admitted strangling and punching another after a drinking session

Daniel James Davis, 26, pleaded guilty to murdering Stephen Knibb, 66, at Mr Knibb's caravan.

Police say after a few drinks, Davis asked for money and when Mr Knibb refused, he punched him to the ground and straddled and strangled him.

Davis later told detectives that he was only after money and had no explanation for what he did.

Mr Knibb's body was found three days later by his son.

Davis will be sentenced in October.
