Formal identification of dead suspect taking longer than usual

Police say it's taking longer than usual to formally identify a man who took his own life after becoming a suspect in a double homicide in South Auckland.

A unemployed man from Waimauku shot himself dead at Woodhill forest on Tuesday night.

He was connected to the double killing of Glenys Stanton, 47, and Trevor Waite, 51, who were found dead at Mr Waite's rural home at Papakura on Sunday.

Police say more DNA forensic work needs to be done before the man can be formally identified. They say the process is taking longer than usual.

Scene examinations continued on Thursday at Mr Waite's home, Woodhill forest and at more than one property relating to the man who shot himself.
