The family of a pilot killed in an air crash over Paraparaumu in 2008 is thrilled that charges against the Civil Aviation Authority's former safety manager have been dismissed.

District Court Judge Andrew Becroft on Thursday found Peter Kirker not guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The charges against related to a forged email which ended up before an inquest.

Mr Kirker believed the organisation had not revealed to the Coroner all the relevant facts about the crash and said he sent the email to David Fielding's family in an attempt at 'whistle-blowing'.

David Fielding's brother, Michael, said the CAA tried very hard to prevent Mr Kirker from giving evidence at the inquest.

He said it was hard to see an honourable man dragged through the court process.
