Police are appealing for witnesses after two teenagers entered a house in Lower Hutt and demanded money from the occupant.

They say the pair went to the house on Frederick St at about 2.30pm on Thursday armed with a pistol and a knife and wearing red bandannas to disguise themselves.

Police say the sole occupant of the property suffered a cut to his arm and required medical treatment.

They say one of the assailants is described as a skinny Maori, aged in his late teens, about 160cm tall. He was wearing a blue jacket over a black hoodie at the time.

The second assailant is described as Polynesian, also in his late teens, about 190cm tall. He was wearing a black hoodie and baggy blue jeans.
