Man linked to double killing still not formally identified

Police have still not been able to formally identify the man linked to a double killing in south Auckland more than a week ago.

The funeral of one of the victims, Glenys Stanton, is being held on Monday afternoon. A service has already been held for the other victim, Trevor Waite.

Both were found with gunshot wounds at Mr Waite's rural home near Papakura on 25 August.

A 51-year-old man being sought by police in connection with the shooting later took his own life as he was approached by officers. He was Ms Stanton's former partner.

Police says it's taking longer than usual to formally identify him, because of the nature of his injuries.

DNA and other forensic work is being used in the process.
