Announcement on Marryatt's future due in days

The mayor of Christchurch hopes an announcement about the future of council chief executive Tony Marryatt will be made in the next few days.

A council meeting was held on Friday morning to discuss Mr Marryatt's employment. It lasted an hour.

Councillors were tight-lipped afterwards, with one saying the discussions were complex.

Mr Parker said he can't say anything because it is an employment matter.

"It's been a very amicable, useful, discussion. It's just part of this employment process, it is complex. What we wish to achieve is finality as soon as possible.''

Mr Parker said a decision should be days away rather than weeks.

Mr Marryatt has been on paid leave for two months during an investigation into the role he played in the building-consents affair.

The council's consents accreditation has been revoked and a Crown manager is working to get it reinstated.
