Police investigating the disappearance of a Nelson man three years ago now believe his disappearance may not be an accident.

Police investigating the disappearance of a Nelson man three years ago, now believe his disappearance may not be an accident.

Leo Lipp-Neighbours, 19, was last seen in Watson Street, Nelson on 24 January 2010.

Detective Sergeant Mark Kaveney says a constant trickle of information from the public about the man has made them suspect his disappearance is suspicious.

He says police believe there are people in Nelson who know exactly what has happened to Mr Lipp-Neighbours and they need to come forward.

He says the man's family would dearly like to get some answers.

Mr Kaveney says police believe they are now looking for someone who has committed a serious crime and that person must be held to account.

In 2010 Crimestoppers offered a $50,000 for information leading to the location of Mr Lipp-Neighbours and his vehicle. That reward is still in place.
