Australian voting booths in New Zealand

12:37 pm on 7 September 2013

A steady stream of Australians wernt to the polls in Wellington on Saturday to cast their vote in the federal election.

Consul-General Peter Sams said there were more people on Saturday morning than over the past two weeks and about 150 votes were cast in the first two hours.

Mr Sams said 10 staff are taking votes at the Australian Consulate General in Auckland and about 1000 votes were expected.

Those in Wellington were divided on who will win the election. Many said it was hard to choose between two equally bad options.

Booths at the Australian High Commission on Hobson Street in Wellington and the Australian Consulate General in Auckland are open from 8am - 6pm (NZT).
