Do Trieu, 68, was last seen on 21 August 2008 and was reported missing by his daughter in September that year.

Mr Trieu was a Vietnamese national who moved to New Zealand in 1980, where he worked as a taxi-driver in Wellington.

Police believe he was killed by one or more people around the time of his disappearance and they want to find his body.

Detective Senior Sergeant Warwick McKee said a homicide investigation was begun after a series of fresh leads was pursued and new information came to light.

He said Mr Trieu was a honest, hard working man who was known to many in the community. Police are determined to resolve the case for the sake of his friends and family.
