A man is in Greymouth hospital with serious head injuries after he was hit by a train on Saturday.
Police say the man was hit by a passenger train, which was being pulled by a steam locomotive, at about 4.45pm at Arnold Valley Road near Greymouth.
The train was held up for at least two hours while ambulance staff worked on the man and then took him to hospital.
Trains were running again at 8.40pm.
