Invercargill police have charged a 32-year-old woman with attempted murder after a three-week-old baby was left with life-threatening injuries last week.

The woman appeared in Invercargill District Court on Tuesday afternoon and was granted name suppression.

She was remanded in custody for a psychiatric report.

The baby is recovering from the injuries in Auckland's Starship Hospital, which says she is in a stable condition.
