Police officers are continuing to examine the beach where a man's body was found on Thursday morning at Otaki, north of Wellington.
The dead man is believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s.
The body was removed from the beach late on Thursday and a post mortem is being held on Friday.
Police are also examining a car parked at the beach near where the body was found.
