Bad weather, avalanches and slips will keep State Highway 94 from the Lower Hollyford turnoff to Milford Sound closed again on Friday.
The road closed early on Wednesday after one of the worst storms in the area in 25 years.
The Transport Agency said an update on when the road may re-open will be issued on Saturday morning.
State Highway Six, between the Gates of Haast Bridge and Haast Pass Summt, is also still closed.
The Transport Agency said clearing an enormous slip at Diana Falls is going to be more complex than first thought.
Three boudlers the size of a house are perched on the slip face. The agency says engineers need to work out whether they will be sluiced or blasted away.
