An officer beaten unconscious in an attack in South Auckland last week was discharged from hospital on Friday.
Police say Sergeant Simon Tate was attacked after he pulled a car over in Otara on Saturday night and repeatedly kicked and punched, suffering serious head and upper body injuries.

On Monday, Walter Tauatevalu, 36, appeared at the Manukau District Court charged with attempted murder, and two counts of assault against a woman.
He will reappear in the High Court at Auckland later this month.
