Hundreds still without power eight days after storm

5:56 pm on 18 September 2013

About 700 homes remain without power following last week's storm in Canterbury.

Lines company Orion says all customers within the Christchurch area have been reconnected, and those still without electricity are dispersed around the rural region.

Chief operating officer, John O'Donnell, says the company is throwing all available resources into getting their power restored.

More contractors from throughout the South Island are arriving on Wednesday to bolster the effort.

Mr O'Donnell says each repair is bringing power back to only a few customers at a time, making progress slow but steady.

Twenty-eight thousand properties were without power the day after the storm.
