New integrated health centre opens in Golden Bay

8:05 am on 21 September 2013

Health Minister Tony Ryall, is in Golden Bay on Saturday morning to officially open a new integrated family health centre in Takaka.

Along with primary care GP services, the centre hosts maternity services, community nursing, rest-home, continuing care and a visiting surgical bus.

Nelson Marlborough District Health Board owns the land and Nelson Bays Primary Health will manage the centre.

Community fundraising paid for most of the construction costs.

The remainder came from the district health board, Tasman District Council, two medical trusts and a bank loan.

DHB chief executive Chris Fleming hopes the centre will assist in the recruitment and retention of doctors and nurses for Golden Bay.
