Crash causes delays for airport traffic

9:51 am on 27 September 2013

A crash near Auckland Airport caused significant delays for commuters and people travelling to the airport on Friday morning.

Eight people are in hospital following the two-car crash at the intersection of George Bolt Memorial Drive and Montgomerie Road in Mangere just after 2am on Friday.

One of the victims is in intensive care with serious head injuries.

Police say the man had been involved in an incident at a bar beforehand and his injuries could be from that.

St John Ambulance says a pregnant woman with moderate injuries was among those hurt.

George Bolt Memorial Drive re-opened at 9.43am but police said there was still a huge backlog of traffic.
