Christchurch in hula hoop record bid

People in Canterbury are being challenged to break the New Zealand record for the largest number of people simultaneously hula hooping for two minutes.

The record was first set in 2008 in Christchurch, but Invercargill broke it a year later.

Record attempt organiser Bernadette Smith says she needs more than 200 people to join in the attempt at the Lincoln Domain at 12pm on Saturday to try to win the record back.

The challenge involves everyone simultaneously hula hooping for two minutes; anyone who drops their hoop cannot be counted towards the final number.

Bernadette Smith says while they know how many people they need to finish with, they need many more at the start so they can end with more than 200 people still swinging their hoop.
