Govt grant for art deco celebration

Napier's annual art deco event has been given a $530,000 cash injection from the Government.

The event celebrates the art deco buildings built in the city following the 1931 earthquake and is held on the third weekend in February. It attracts up to 30,000 people, including 3000 international guests.

Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce says the money from the Major Events Development Fund will support the 2014 and 2015 events.

He says the organisers will use the money to raise the event's international profile, and the funding will be matched by local and regional councils in Hawke's Bay.
