Emergency services have been called to Nelson Airport on Thursday afternoon after an Air New Zealand flight crew reported an electrical smell in the cockpit during the flight.

The pilots in charge of Air Nelson flight NZ2195 from Wellington stopped the plane on the taxiway at Nelson Airport and were met by the airport's fire crew.

Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter pilot Jarrod Colbourne says he can see a Beech 1900 hundred aircraft at the northern end of the airport taxiway near the golf club with one fire engine in attendance.

He says no smoke is visible from the plane.

The 17 passengers have been taken to the terminal.
