Unexploded bombs in Vanuatu pose risks - NZ navy

The New Zealand Navy says its divers found three unexploded bombs in Vanuatu's Port Vila Harbour on an exploration mission earlier this year.

Dive operators say there are at least six bombs, and other ammunition from the Second World War, in the harbour.

The diving team's leader, Lieutenant Commander Trevor Leslie, says a lot of the ordnance is still in a live or dangerous state, at about 21 metres depth.

He could not confirm if there was a plan to remove the bombs.
