Massive spike in demand for raw untreated milk

Producers of raw, untreated milk are reporting a massive spike in demand for their product.

Raw milk users say it contains more minerals, enzymes and probiotic bacteria than the pasteurized and homogenized milk commonly found in supermarkets.

The Ministry for Primary Industries doesn't require raw milk producers to be certified, but does put a limit on how much can be produced or sold each day, and a buyer must sign a waiver acknowledging the risks involved in consuming raw milk.

Clinical nutritionist Ben Warren who works with raw milk producers, says about 10,000 people in Hawke's Bay are drinking the product each week .
