New Zealand is hosting three Chinese naval ships which arrive in Auckland on Friday.
Prime Minister John Key says the destroyer, frigate and oiler asked to visit, and they comply with the nuclear free law.
Mr Key says foreign ships are welcome as long as they are not nuclear powered and don't carry nuclear weapons.
