The government has announced that 21 schools will get access to a new free, ultra-fast internet service before the end of the year.

The $211 million Network for Learning will provide schools with fast connections, uncapped data, content filtering and security services.

Associate Education Minister Nikki Kaye says three schools will be connected before December.

They are West Auckland's Massey Primary School, Waimate High School in South Canterbury and Wanaka's Mt Aspiring College.

Ms Kaye says a further 18 schools will be connected before the end of the year.
